About the Collection
Located in the Library on UBC’s Okanagan Campus, the Okanagan Special Collections (OSC) provides a repository for titles published in and about the Okanagan and neighbouring regions of British Columbia, a variety of titles that support the teaching and learning needs of the campus, as well as archival collections that present the rich and dynamic history of the region.

Located on the second floor of the UBC Okanagan Library, the Special Collections room (LIB256) boasts a variety of resources – books, pamphlets, journal issues, DVDs, VHS, maps, etc. – created in and/or about the Okanagan-Similkameen, Columbia-Shuswap, and the Kootenays.

As part of the UBC Okanagan Special Collections (OSC), the Archives collects materials related to local history, families, businesses, industries, etc. from the Okanagan-Similkameen, Columbia-Shuswap, and the Kootenays.
Archival materials are accessible for in-person research consultations. To book a consultation, please contact our Archivist.

Access OSC Archives digitized collections by searching UBC’s Open Collections. As more collections become available, they will be loaded onto this search portal.
Open Collections provides an overview of the digital resources created and maintained by UBC Library. Collectively they document a diverse range of people and places, activities and events, and serve as an important online resource for historians, genealogists, and other researchers, as well as the public at large.
Access to Materials
Materials in the Okanagan Special Collections room (LIB256) are available for use during library hours. Please visit the Library Service Desk to request access to the space. Access to the physical archival collections is by appointment only.
Tours of the Okanagan Special Collections may be arranged by contacting our Archivist.
UBC Okanagan Librarians are available to make presentations and workshops based on the materials available in the Okanagan Special Collections. Classes can be booked to visit the space and use materials. We request that classes be booked at least two weeks in advance of the visit. If you are interested in scheduling a visit for your class, please contact your subject librarian or our Archivist.
UBC Okanagan Special Collections staff will arrange for digital reproduction(s) of its graphic material(s) under the conditions outlined in our “Agreement – Use Guidelines for Photographic Reproduction.” Currently, we are only able to provide digital copies of available materials.
For reproduction requests, please arrange an in-person or by phone appointment with our Archivist.
Applicable fees for digital reproduction are outlined in our “Agreement – Use Guidelines for Photographic Reproduction.” Fees will vary based on intended use of the digital reproduction.
Please note: Fees may be waived at the discretion of the UBC Okanagan Special Collections staff.
