In recognition of the academic excellence and rich diversity that students with language backgrounds other than English bring to our campus, we have worked to develop additional opportunities to enhance students’ access to language acquisition supports.
Academic Conversation Appointments
One-on-one support to develop speaking skills so students feel more confident participating and asking questions in class, and conversing with classmates and instructors.
To book an academic conversation appointment, please book an appointment using our online booking system. After you log in, select Academic Conversation from the drop-down menu at the top of the page.
As per our policies, accounts will be disabled after two no-show appointments. Appointments must be cancelled at least 8 hours in advance. You can book same-day appointments, and you can book up to 7 days in advance.
Project Literacy @ UBCO
A community partnership betweenUBC Okanagan Library and Project Literacy Kelowna has enabled Project Literacy to bring their One to One Tutoring Program for English language acquisition to the UBC Okanagan campus.
Each Winter term (September and January), the Project Literacy Education Coordinator will organize up to 20 tutor/learner matches. The Coordinator will arrange to meet with each learner to help them determine their goals and objectives, as well as assess their baseline literacy skills.
Project literacy-trained tutors will begin to meet with their assigned learners in the Writing and Research Centre, LIB 237. These appointments will be arranged between the tutor and the learner, so there is no need to book an appointment through the online booking system.
Tutor recruitment will start in September and January. Students interested in becoming a volunteer tutor can sign up at the Project Literacy Booth. Additionally, interested learners and tutors can email: Katia Bois, Education Coordinator at Project Literacy Kelowna: email@example.com
