Book Club Kits

What are the book club kits?

UBC Okanagan Library has sets of books that you can borrow to run a book club in your unit, department, or amongst colleagues and friends. The book club kits have been introduced in support of UBC’s Inclusion Action Plan and Indigenous Strategic Plan.

Each kit usually includes:

  • Multiple print copies of each book
  • Access to an eBook (if available)
  • General book club discussion questions
  • Specific discussion questions about the book
  • Canvas content to help facilitate your book club

Note: The number of books that are available to borrow will vary per kit.

Borrowing

We request that the designated leader of the book club email Christian Isbister, Indigenous Initiatives Librarian (Christian.isbister@ubc.ca) to inform the Library of the book club and provide a list of participants so that we can ensure the books are loaned to the correct people. As book club kits are new we are trying to evaluate demand and interest in this new collection.

Each book club participant should visit the Okanagan Library service desk to borrow a print copy of the book, or view the eBook copy. Print copies can be borrowed for one academic term at a time.

Structuring your book club

The book club kits have been organized for meetings to happen weekly over 8-10 weeks to provide time to discuss and learn more about the content. Please join the self-enroll Canvas Course to access information that will help you structure a supportive book club that is focused on topics related to anti-racism.
