Book Club Kits
What are the book club kits?
UBC Okanagan Library has sets of books that you can borrow to run a book club in your unit, department, or amongst colleagues and friends. The book club kits have been introduced in support of UBC’s Inclusion Action Plan and Indigenous Strategic Plan.
Each kit usually includes:
- Multiple print copies of each book
- Access to an eBook (if available)
- General book club discussion questions
- Specific discussion questions about the book
- Canvas content to help facilitate your book club
Note: The number of books that are available to borrow will vary per kit.
Borrowing
Please have each member in the book club personally borrow their book. If they are not UBC affiliated, they will need to obtain a Community Borrower Card and can borrow the book for two week periods (with an option to renew) through UBC, or borrow the book through the ORL.
If you would like more information about book club kit resources (e.g. Canvas modules or websites), contact one of the EDI Committee co-chairs: Jane Jun (jane.jun@ubc.ca) or Jessica Lowry (jessica.lowry@ubc.ca).
Structuring your book club
The book club kits have been organized for weekly meetings with opportunities for participants to share resources. Join the self-enroll Canvas Course to access information on structuring a supportive book club that is focused on topics related to anti-racism. Please access more information on our libguide for the past anti-racism book clubs.

Okanagan Reads Book Club Kits
The Okanagan Reads Project was developed by UBC Okanagan PhD student Sarah Craven, in partnership with the Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) and UBC Okanagan Library. This project was funded by the Sharron Simpson Family Community Engagement Endowment Fund.
The project involves the purchase of book club kits that feature books written by Okanagan authors, which are then made available for free through the Okanagan Regional Library.
